Torsion Springs
Torsion springs are designed to lift specific weights and should be replaced with springs of the same size and wire gauge. With their 10,000 "standard" cycle, and corrosion resistant coated steel coils, torsion springs are designed to bear the heavy load of a garage door for a very long time. This means that each pair of springs has a typical life span of five to twelve years, depending on the frequency of use.
Because the springs are made to lift the full weight of your garage door, which weighs anywhere between 300 to 500 lbs, trying to perform a spring replacement on your own is hazardous. For safety reasons, torsion springs must be installed by a licensed professional.
